The Reading Symphony Youth Orchestra

The Reading Symphony Youth Orchestra (RSYO) is a musical group in Reading, Pennsylvania which performs classical orchestral music. Created in 1989, the orchestra was formed by the Education Committe of the Reading Symphony Orchestra (RSO) Board of Directors with the intention of providing experience to local teenagers in the field of classical music. Supported by the RSO and a parents association, the orchestra holds annual holiday and spring concerts as well as occasional international tours. The orchestra has toured the United Kingdom; French Canada; and Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic in 2001, 2003, and 2004 respectively. The most recent tour was Italy in 2007.

For the 2008-2009 season, the orchestra split into two smaller orchestras,  one consisting primarily of students in grades 9 and 10, the other of students in grades 11 and 12. Peter Brye conducts the orchestra's older students, while Brian Mishler has assumed the role of conductor to the younger orchestra.
